The members of a popular local society are embracing new experiences this autumn, and they’re not doing things by half!
Firstly, they are embarking on their next production under a new name. This long-established group, formerly known as the Worksop Light Operatic Society, will now be called the Worksop Musical Theatre Society.
The Society’s President explained the reason for the change: “We wanted to show our supporters, both old and new, that we are focusing on more modern examples of musical theatre. The old name reflected the classic shows we performed when the Society was formed 50 years ago.”
Another exciting development for the Society is the choice of their November production. Sister Act, based on the 1992 film of the same name, is an uplifting musical featuring powerful gospel music, vibrant dancing, and a heartfelt story. This will be the first time the Society has performed this show, which will premiere at the Acorn Theatre, Queen Street, Worksop, from Wednesday 6th to Saturday 9th November.
Performances begin at 7.00pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.00pm. Tickets are priced at £18.50 each and are available now via the Acorn Theatre website, www.acorntheatre.org/booking.
The final novelty for the Society is their director for this production, who is working with them for the first time. Alisdair Adams is a trained actor and drama teacher who previously worked in London before relocating to Sheffield. He has collaborated with societies in Sheffield, Chesterfield, and Dronfield, and he also runs his own acting group, the Consenting Adults Theatre Company. In addition to directing, Alisdair writes plays for his group to perform. Rehearsals for Sister Act are already underway, and Alisdair hopes the production will inspire audiences and raise the roof at the Acorn Theatre.
