Signals Festival returned to Rotherham in February and was hailed a ‘huge success’ by organisers.
The large-scale youth music festival (a collaboration between Children’s Capital of Culture, Rotherham Music Hub, Rotherham Council’s Events team, and young people from across the borough) took over Rotherham 10th to 18th February, filling the borough with a host of free music events, family activities and showstopping live performances from emerging young talent in Rotherham.
Councillor David Sheppard, Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion and Environment at Rotherham Council, said: “This year’s Signals Festival was bigger and better than ever, thanks to all the incredible young artists that either helped organise the festival or performed at it. The festival provided a real platform for young people from Rotherham to step up and showcase their talents.
“From wowing visitors at Magna Science Adventure Centre with the stunning Particle Shrine installation, to hosting pop-up performances by young buskers at popular spots across the borough, the event was topped off brilliantly with the Signals Saturday Shindig across the town centre.
“Highlights were bringing our Amp Up stage to All Saint’s Square – a showcase of young bands, including Class Zero, the youngest ever band we’ve showcased – and bringing proceedings to a close with a breathtaking performance by Emergence Collective against a stunning backdrop.
“The festival was a huge success and we can’t wait for next year’s event, which will coincide with Rotherham becoming the world’s first Children’s Capital of Culture in 2025.”
