Give the gift of time to thank the NHS

Volunteers with a flair for fundraising are being sought by the Rotherham Hospital and Community Charity to help make a difference to NHS care.

Volunteering is an important part of charity life but a new cohort of enthusiastic people willing to give the gift of time to the NHS are needed to help boost fundraising events and activities.

Rachael Dawes, Head of Fundraising, said: “We have a select team of volunteers who host book sales, gather tombola prizes and support us at events. For a small team of three, we are so grateful! But as our ambitions continue to grow, we want a bigger cohort of amazing volunteers to grow and flourish with us too.

“There are many ways to get involved to suit you and fit your existing commitments, from helping at our events, using your people skills to talk to community groups, hosting stalls at big events or contributing to the smooth running of our Charity Hub. We’d appreciate every hour or day of your time.

“We will do all we can to make sure you have a rewarding and enjoyable experience while volunteering with us. It’s a great opportunity to give something back to the NHS, to develop your skills or showcase your existing talents, to build your confidence while learning more about the essential work we do.

“We really hope you can join us because we know that together, we can achieve great things in future.”

Charity roles could include:

  • Distributing collection tins
  • Bucket collections
  • Supporting events
  • Manning our Charity Hub in the main entrance at Rotherham Hospital

Pat Wiles regularly volunteers for the charity at events and hosts weekly book sales. She said: “I started volunteering because I wanted to give something back to the NHS but I soon realised that it’s reciprocal – I get so much from it too. I love the interaction with the public and meeting new people and the comradery with other volunteers who I often socialise with. I like to feel useful and it’s nice that I’m appreciated. I would definitely recommend others volunteer too.”

Volunteer Nancy Pearson supports the charity at fundraising events. She said: “The charity’s Tiny Toes appeal really inspired me to volunteer. I am lucky enough to have had healthy children but I would want those facilities available for everyone if and when they need them. I enjoyed my job as a nursery nurse and volunteering continues to give me satisfaction, a sense of purpose, the chance to meet different people and I enjoy knowing I’ve done something to help someone else.”
