Back in March 2020, Maltby Musical Theatre Group (MMTG) performed Barnum at the Rotherham Civic Theatre just days before the country went into lockdown.

Since then they have been keen to perform again and they don’t have long left to wait. Their production of the musical murder mystery ‘Curtains’, originally planned for March 2021, will open to audiences on Tuesday 8th March 2022.
Despite the obstacles of the last two years, determined director Richard Wilshaw held online auditions, Zoom rehearsals and kept the social aspect alive with weekly Zoom quizzes. They even used the time to publish some videos on Facebook including a mini-series named ‘Miriam’ in which Elaine Demaine played the part of a widowed housewife, written by cast member Andrew Trueman who will be playing the lead role of Frank Cioffi in Curtains.
Now, back to rehearsing face-to-face, the production team and cast are well on track to wowing audiences at Rotherham Civic Theatre with ‘Curtains’, written by the creators of Chicago and Cabaret. Set in a Boston theatre in 1959, the fast-paced show promises some great musical numbers, plenty of comedy and a mystery to solve along the way!
After what has been a difficult time, the 72-year-old MMTG would love to welcome audiences back to the Civic and promise a great evening of entertainment. Shows take place from Tuesday 8th to Saturday 12th March. Tickets are available at www.rotherhamtheatres.co.uk.
