Everyone at Winthrop Gardens in Wickersley is keen to wish customers, friends and supporters all the very best for 2022. Winthrop will re-open after the winter break on Tuesday 1st February and this will see the resumption of many regular activities.

Councillor Sue Ellis, Chair of the Winthrop Committee, said: “2021 was a year of re-opening and recovery for Winthrop and, on behalf of the Winthrop Committee, I would like to say how grateful we are to all the customers, friends, supporters and above all, our amazing team of volunteers, for all their support and the confidence shown in us during what has been a most challenging year! But – we’ve come through having run several successful events, welcomed many first-time visitors and been delighted to welcome back and see so many familiar faces.”

Anna Chester, Winthrop Organiser, added: “We’re now looking ahead to 2022! We’re all hoping it’s a year when we don’t have the worry of COVID and can focus on our many plans for the year. We’ve some great ideas and emerging plans, especially for the Platinum Jubilee.”

Winthrop will re-open on Tuesday 1st February and be open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 10.30am and 3.00pm until the end of March, at which point they move to ‘summer opening’ with a later closure time of 4.00pm.

On Tuesday 1st February ‘Flossie’s Craft Class’ will resume between 10.30am and 12.30pm.

Weekly ‘Wednesday Walks’ will resume on Wednesday 2nd February at 10.30am.

Thursday 3rd February sees the return of the ‘Sight and Sound’ walking group – supported by several volunteers – which enables people living with sight and hearing issues to enjoy guided and supported walks around Winthrop. It’s been nearly two years since they were able to walk with the group so it will be a very special day!

On Friday 4th February it will be the first ‘Memory Café’ of 2022 for people and their carers living with dementia. This is a very popular group led by volunteers and it is presently fully subscribed, but anyone wishing to go on the waiting list should call 07397 039226 or email winthropgardens1@gmail.com.
