Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice’s Christmas tree recycling service returns

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice is on hand to remove the hassle from the post-festive clean up as its hugely popular Christmas tree recycling service returns to Rotherham and Worksop.

The charity launched the environmentally friendly service last year, collecting and recycling around 2,000 real Christmas trees across the region and raising a phenomenal £20,000 to support local children and families.

Each tree was collected by the charity’s team of eager elves before being chipped and turned into compost, which was then used to grow new trees as well as being spread throughout the hospice’s beautiful gardens. Some of the trees even ended up at Yorkshire Wildlife Park where curious animals including polar bears, lemurs and rhinos had a fantastic time exploring them.

This year, in return for a small donation, Bluebell Wood will be collecting trees from people’s homes across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire. Booking a collection couldn’t be easier – all you need to do is visit www.bluebellwood.org/recycle-your-christmas-tree and follow the button for your area, or call 01909 517365. With limited collection slots available, people are urged to book fast to avoid disappointment.

Each recycled tree will help Bluebell Wood be there for children and families across the region who sadly don’t know how many Christmases they’ll have with one another.

Rotherham-based Beatson Clark, a leading glass bottle and jar manufacturer, is kindly sponsoring the service this year.

Samantha Wood, Head of Fundraising at Bluebell Wood, said: “We’re very excited to be bringing back our Christmas tree recycling service this year and we’re looking forward to making life that bit easier for people in the New Year.

“As well as helping to lighten the load when it’s time to take the trimmings down, we hope our service will give people the peace of mind that their real trees are being disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

“None of this would be possible without the support of some amazing local businesses, so we’d like to say a huge thank you Beatson Clark and all our other brilliant partners for their generosity.”
