Volunteers from Worksop were amongst those honoured on at a special tea party given by Girlguiding Nottinghamshire.
Award recipients from Worksop Division included Beverley Anne Bury, Leader with the 2nd Carlton-in-Lindrick Brownie Unit, who was presented with the Oak Leaf Award in recognition of her outstanding commitment to local Guiding. Alongside her was Chloe Allison, who was given a special Thanks Brooch as a personal gesture of appreciation by County Commissioner Jackie Brocklehurst.
Held at Portland College in Mansfield on 1st October, the event gave County Commissioner Jackie Brocklehurst the opportunity to present awards to over 50 members and supporters to mark their exceptional commitment and achievements.
In addition to presenting Long Service Awards to some 20 women who have devoted a combined total of over 700 years to Guiding, Jackie Brocklehurst gave Oak Leaf Awards to over 20 leaders and the Nottinghamshire Star to four non-uniformed volunteers in recognition of their outstanding commitment to local Guiding. Five Queen’s Guide Awards were given particular mention, whilst seven county brooches and three ‘Thanks’ badges were presented as personal gestures of appreciation.
“The people we applauded today have given truly exceptional service to Girlguiding in Nottinghamshire,” said Jackie Brocklehurst. “It was a real pleasure — and a privilege — to publicly acknowledge their role in ensuring that the opportunities created through Girlguiding membership are kept open for so many girls and young women across the county.”
Girlguiding Nottinghamshire currently has a membership of around 9,000 girls and young women, including Rainbows (aged five to seven), Brownies (aged seven to 10), Guides (aged 10 to 14), Rangers, Senior Section and Young Leaders (aged 14 to 25). Adult supporters are essential if units are to remain active: in addition to an ongoing need for leaders and helpers, there are also many non-uniformed roles for volunteers who can offer help on an ad hoc basis.
