Soroptimists celebrate 45 years

On Saturday 6th May, ladies of the Soroptimist International Club of the Dukeries marked their 45th anniversary with a Charter Dinner at Ye Olde Bell in Barnby Moor. They were delighted to be able to invite over 60 guests to share in this landmark occasion for the club.

Guests attended from as far afield as Kettering, Lincoln, Doncaster and Lancashire; ranging from members of other Soroptimist clubs, to family and friends of SI of the Dukeries. A display of photographs and literature charted the club’s work and social functions, from the early years to more recent events.

After a superb meal, various toasts were proposed, including one by Regional President, Mrs Sandra Angood; together with speeches from joint Club Presidents Caroline, Ginny and Hilary. A presentation was also made to one of the club’s founding members, Mrs June Watkins.

This was followed by an extremely interesting talk by Mrs Kate Firth, General Manager of Ye Olde Bell. She took her audience on a journey through time; from the hotel’s inception in the 1600s to the present day and on to future projects in the pipeline. It was a great opportunity for friends old and new to get together and a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.

Soroptimist International is a worldwide organisation for women, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women.
