September was a busy month for all at In Sam’s Name with information points across the locations the group holds meetings. These pop-up events happened over the weekend of the 8th to 10th September and brought awareness of suicide prevention for World Suicide Prevention Day on Sunday 10th September.
The events were accompanied with live music by local artists. On Friday entertainment was provided by The Guv’nor, singing everything from 60s’ classics to modern day anthems. Saturday afternoon saw local singer / songwriter Jamie Fox in Worksop, followed on Saturday evening by Carey and Morland – a folk duet in Kirkby in Ashfield. The weekend of music was completed by covers artist Jack Scrimshaw at The Pit in Newstead village.
As well as fortnightly meetings in Worksop, Retford, Ollerton and Kirkby in Ashfield, the group also offers Talk and Walk events. The weekend also featured two walks: the regular walk from Kilton Forest Recreational Fields Car Park on the Sunday at 11.00am (which was followed by tea and cake at Kilton Forest Golf Club), and a collaboration walk the previous day with another men’s mental health group at Brierley Forest Country Park in Huthwaite.
In October the group will raise awareness for World Mental Health Day on 10th October. To find out how the group will cover this event visit www.insamsname.co.uk.
