At a recent Cadwell Park round of the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club championship round, retired Worksop Police Sergeant John ‘Foxy’ Fowler was surprised to hear his name being mentioned by the commentator.
John has been a supporter of Worksop-based Spencer Racing after being invited by the team owner to see them in action in 2009. He has been an avid fan of motorcycle racing since that first visit and travels to as many meetings as he can get to.
One of the Spencer riders is Nottingham’s Erv’ ‘The Swerve’ Wallace and as John was born and raised in the city prior to moving to the Worksop area upon joining Nottinghamshire Constabulary, they had plenty to talk about. John helps Erv’ with the cost of tyres and other bits and also puts a bit of financial help the way of other racers, one of these being Spencer Racing’s James Ford who last month had great success on the Isle of Man in the Pre TT meeting there on Spencer Yamaha 600 and 750 Kawasaki.
Because of his behind the scenes help, the low key ‘Foxy’ is well respected within the team and various racing bikes now have his stickers on the fairings. The commentator at Cadwell Park knows what this sort of assistance is worth to the rising stars of the racing world and felt it was the right thing to do to let the crowd know.
Sitting in the ‘Hairpin’ grandstand Foxy was shocked to hear his name mentioned, the spectators around him clapped and cheered in recognition of what he does. The team manager was subsequently besieged by race goers asking for ‘Foxy Fowler Racing’ stickers.
