The work that Bassetlaw Food Bank does wouldn’t be possible without a fleet of volunteer drivers. From collecting donations at supermarkets and churches, to delivering emergency food parcels, Fruit and Veg boxes and even white goods, they provide an essential service to the community.
The organisation is expanding its subsidised Fruit and Veg box scheme, which is designed to increase access to healthy and fresh produce in low-income households on means-tested benefits.
At present the scheme operates on Wednesdays, which is when drivers deliver the boxes, but having secured more project funding from Bassetlaw District Council they are keen to offer the service on Thursdays too.
If you have access to a vehicle, can spare a couple of hours on a Thursday and want to do something for those in your community, then this volunteer role is for you. They’re flexible on the hours you volunteer and which area you make deliveries, so whatever suits you suits them too! And if that’s not enough to convince you, there’s always cake and coffee for volunteers at the Food Hub.
If you’d like to become a part of the team, or would like to test out the cake options before you decide to commit, then please contact admin@bassetlawfoodbank.org.
