Out and about in the Worksop area

Stretching from the south in Welbeck and Creswell, to the north at Oldcotes and Blyth, residents in over 29,000 house-holds call Worksop home. Located on the edge of Sherwood Forest, the town – also known as ‘The Gateway to the Dukeries’ – is steeped in local history and has many thriving community links.

The town’s historic journey is believed to reach as far back as at least Anglo Saxon times, when evidence of a settlement can be found. Throughout the centuries, the Worksop area has been home to nobility and royalty, and many of their estates are now renowned local tourist attractions, such as Welbeck Abbey, and the Hardwick, Rufford and Clumber estates.

If it’s shopping your after, then Worksop has much to offer. The North Nottinghamshire town is famed for its weekly markets, and regular farmers and continental markets too! The town centre is home to both high street chains and independent and specialist shops. Also in the centre is the Worksop Priory Church, which dates to 1103, and is the town’s most iconic landmark.

Worksop is surrounded by beautiful countryside and has many attractions. The Chesterfield Canal runs through its centre, connecting it to the River Trent and its local neighbouring town Retford. In south Worksop picturesque Creswell Crags can be found, and nearby country parks can be admired, such as Clumber Park and Rufford Abbey and Country Park. Worksop is proud of its town’s heritage and its community society is thriving. As such, it has many local clubs, charities and societies and you will find many of these below.
