At the meeting of Bassetlaw Cardiac Support Group on Friday 1st September, members welcomed Claire Monk from Welbeck Brewery. Claire is well qualified in micro biology and chemistry and brewing was her passion — the meeting was, therefore, interesting, refreshing and ‘spiritual’. The brewery commenced seven years ago in conjunction with Kelham Island Brewery, where Claire had learned her skills but who are no longer in partnership. Four types of beer were brought along (and sampled). Each type appealing to most members and preferences were discussed. Members learned about what type of hop was best for ‘bittering’ and which for aroma, etc. English hops being among the best in the world and exported to America. This was a very ‘merry’ afternoon.
The group’s Parkinson’s friends will join members on 4th October for a Trent River cruise with afternoon tea. The next meeting is on Friday 6th October at The Crossing, Worksop, when the speaker will be George Buchannan talking about the history of Hodsock Priory. All are welcome to any of the group’s meetings. For more information call Pat Broskom on 01909 562351.
