Christmas comes early for the Dukeries Community Band

by | 9 November 2023 | Hobbies, Music, Sherwood

Every year it’s always a case of which comes first – Christmas chocolate novelties appearing in the shops or Dukeries Community Band starting to rehearse Christmas pieces. This year it’s been very close, but the Band won!

They are a community wind band comprising of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments and are looking forward to performing over the Christmas period.

However, they really do need more brass players. Their wonderful saxophone players do a fantastic job playing parts that should be played by brass instruments. However, it would be so nice to have the music played by the correct instruments So if you play trumpet / cornet, trombone, euphonium, baritone horn, French horn or tuba and think you would enjoy playing in a band, please go along and try them out (they don’t audition).

Players of woodwind and percussion instruments are also most welcome too. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while, or have started to learn fairly recently, although you must be able to read music.
They rehearse each Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton from 7.00pm to 9.00pm.

Their concerts support the local community and charities and they are always happy to hear from organisations who would like the Band to play for them.
