St Mary’s in Tickhill are grateful for all that was given to keep the Church Tower in good order and help preserve the fabric of the building from the elements. Now they can begin to make the building warmer and more welcoming for both church and community use.
The community consultation before the pandemic identified the priority of a ‘warmer’ space for any wider use of the church building by the community. As part of a wider re-ordering of the building, Phase 1 is to make the church a warmer space. To do this, it is looking to install new boilers which are hydrogen ready, along with other adjustments and maintenance. In the order of £100,000 is needed for boilers and improvements to the heating system through grants and fundraising.
The church is conscious of the cost-of-living crisis faced by so many at the moment so, alongside this project, they are also determined to support families here in South Yorkshire and communities in developing countries by encouraging continued giving for their needs.
It could take up to 20 months to raise the monies and they will need generous support from all in our community. St Mary’s has already embarked on the challenge of raising the funds with various events at church which you may have attended. Continuing this fundraising, the church is holding a Gift and Open Day on Saturday 22nd October from 10.00am to 4.00pm where community donations will be welcomed.
But it’s going to be more than that! It is also going to be an Open Day with lots of things to do.
There could be a kidnapping needing a ransom to be paid! There will be refreshments, visits up the tower, church guided tours, organ demonstration / recital and much more. So why not go along, have some fun and help raise money to ensure this historic building is fit for use by the church and the wider community. All are welcome.
