A first for Rotherham Rotary Club, their Santa Run will take place on Sunday 7th December at 10.00am. In every sense, it is a fun run over a short three-lap course of approximately 1.5 miles. The beautiful Rosehill Park in Rawmarsh, on the north side of Rotherham, provides the perfect setting for this festive event, which will be held in a completely traffic-free and safe environment on firm paths.
The event is expected to appeal to young people and the young at heart, with no age restrictions. As it is a Santa Run, each participant will receive a free Santa suit (available in sizes 5–8, 9–14 and adult) included with the £6.00 entry fee. All finishers will also receive a ribboned medal.
For those familiar with the parkrun events, the senior one is held in Clifton Park, while the Junior parkrun takes place every Sunday morning at 9.00am in Rosehill Park, Rawmarsh. The Santa Run will begin roughly 30 minutes after the junior event concludes, following exactly the same course. Details of how to enter can be found on the Rawmarsh Runners Facebook page and the Rotary Club of Rotherham Facebook page.
The event would not be possible without the support of Rawmarsh Runners (www.rawmarshrunners.co.uk), whose dedicated members Barbara Hudson and Matt Chils organise the Junior parkrun. The Rotary Club is indebted to them and their team of volunteers for their enthusiastic support of the Santa Run. Rawmarsh Runners are always looking for opportunities to grow the Junior parkrun (which has an upper age limit of 14) and to encourage young people to experience running in a non-competitive environment with no winners – only starters, and hopefully finishers.
Barbara said: “Rawmarsh Runners and Runstars couldn’t be more excited to play host to the first Rosehill Victoria Park Santa Dash alongside the wonderful Rotherham Rotary Club.”
Proceeds from the event will go to a local Rawmarsh charity. Thanks are extended to businessman Mr Nick Cragg of recruiting specialists Stafforce, and to the Rawmarsh Ward Councillor Grant Scheme, for their generous sponsorship of the event.
