In August Rotherfed held its summer-themed coffee morning, which was a great success with a good number of people enjoying cakes, fruit and drinks, plus activities for all to enjoy such as colouring, word searches and exploring shells and fossils.
Residents from across the community attended, including some of the organisation’s great Befriending Service volunteers and recipients. In addition, several professional colleagues from Rush House, DWP, IAPT and Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, Councillor Wendy Cooksey and Rukhsana Haleem all joined the event.
Helpers from the Make Your Money Go Further team and Energy Know How joined in to support with any information, advice and guidance around these areas. It was great to see a good turnout of people and to see many members of the community engaging and having fun. Organisers had to pop out and buy more cakes and milk, the event was so well attended!
Rotherfed’s free coffee events are run monthly at Springwell Gardens Community Centre. Everyone is welcome to pop along, make new friends and have a chat. The next events, all at 10.30am to 12.30pm, are:
- Tuesday 11th October
- Wednesday 9th November
- Thursday 8th December
The group is currently recruiting for volunteers for its Telephone Befriending Service; if you have a minimum of one hour per week to spare and want to make a difference please get in touch. Or are you a Digital Champion? Do you have good knowledge and understanding of smart phones and tablets? Could you spare some time to help others in the community navigate their way around their devices?
