Roll up, roll up, don’t forget to come along to Maltby Town Council’s Horticultural Show on Saturday 19th August. Organisers have been very busy putting together what is promising to be a wonderful day, so we’re hoping that the weather is kind! Fingers crossed.
There will be some fabulous entertainment for the children. Visit and let the children watch the Punch and Judy shows, be amazed by the balloon show and let the balloon modeller create their favourite animals — and it’s all free. If they want to be more hands on, there will be colouring sheets, vegetable monsters and scarecrows that they can make on the day to take part in the competition.
We have been blessed with lovely hot weather recently and organisers hope all those entering have been watering their prize entries to ensure they look their best for the day. If you like a bit of excitement, then ensure you don’t miss the end of day auction, where you’ll get the chance to bid on some of the entries. All proceeds from this go to the Rotherham Hospice.
For those of you wanting to enter here’s a bit of important information:
Exhibits may be staged on Friday evening, 18th August, between 6.00pm and 8.00pm and/or Saturday 19th August from 8.00am to 10.45am. All exhibits must have been produced by the exhibitor. Craft items must not have been previously been shown at a Maltby Town Council Horticultural Show. All exhibitors must leave the Hall by 11.00am prior to judging.
Maltby Town Council will provide plates and vases for exhibits if required. Exhibitors may also use their own if they so wish.
All judging will take place under the criteria laid down by Maltby Town Council except for the class to be judged under RHS rules.
The cost of entering is only 30p per item and it’s free for children aged 16 and under for the children’s section only.
Opening hours of the show are 2.00pm to 4.30pm with presentation of awards for all shows at 4.15pm. All trophies will be presented and displayed in the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall. Trophy winners will receive a salver to keep. Prize cards and rosettes/pennants are awarded to winners as a permanent souvenir. On top of that, the Earl of Scarbrough’s Challenge Spade is awarded for the Best Overall Exhibit in Show.
There is also money to be won in the adult only sections; first £3, second £2 and third £1. Winning prize money can be collected from 5.00pm on the day of the show.
In the children’s section rosettes will be awarded to first, second and third and all children’s entries will receive a certificate.
