The volunteers at Winthrop Gardens would like to send their good wishes for the festive season to customers, friends and supporters who have given them such fabulous support and encouragement in 2023.
Winthrop will close for its annual Festive break on Friday 15th December and re-open on Tuesday 30th January 2024.
Winthrop’s Terrific Ten!
Winthrop’s Terrific Ten are ten of the fabulous cafe volunteers down at Winthrop who have joined the Dementia UK challenge to knit for 30 minutes every day in November. The money they raise will go towards funding Admiral Nurses who provide specialist support to those family members caring for people living with dementia.
Amongst the many activities organised down at Winthrop, they are particularly proud of their twice monthly Memory Cafe for people living with dementia and the support group for carers which they’ve recently started. This gives their volunteers a real insight into the challenges faced by people living with dementia and their carers, and so Winthrop’s Terrific Ten knitters had no hesitation in rising to this challenge to knit, knit, knit!
Every Christmas, they have fun knitted ‘toppers’ for chocolate oranges which they sell to raise funds for Winthrop. By getting involved in this challenge, the volunteers raise much needed funds for Dementia UK to fund these very special Admiral Nurses – so it’s a win, win, win scenario.
