The Children Young People and Families Consortium (CYPF Consortium) is celebrating after being awarded £899,572 in National Lottery funding to support voluntary and community sector organisations in Rotherham to be “stronger together in changing lives” and offer a range of free activities and support for children and young people.

The CYPF Consortium, which established in 2003 and is based in the Voluntary Action Rotherham building on Coke Hill in Rotherham, will use the funds to deliver its platform for collaboration amongst local charities and non-profits and coordinate the delivery of the Smiles for Miles Project which is offered by a partnership of 10 of its member organisations: JADE Youth and Community, Clifton Learning Partnership, Swinton Lock Activity Centre, Rotherham and Barnsley MIND, Rotherham Rise, Rotherham United Community Trust, ROAR, Rush House, Endeavour and YWCA Yorkshire.

Following the huge success of the Smiles for Miles project since it launched in 2021, this new funding will see an even greater increase in youth clubs over the next three years at five ‘bases’ located in Dinnington, Town Centre, Eastwood, Parkgate and Swinton. These bases will connect young people to a ‘basket of support and provision’, increasing access to a wide range of free activities and support such as creative projects, sports, outdoor experiences, personal development and wellbeing programmes and mental health support.

Ashley Leggott, CYPF Consortium Strategic Coordinator said: “For over 20 years, the CYPF Consortium has played a key role in responding to the needs of local communities in Rotherham and this funding, which is possibly the most significant single investment in local youth services that the borough has seen in the last decade, will showcase the power of collaboration by local charities and non-profit organisations who believe in the benefits of working together and are committed to putting the needs and views of children, young people and families at the centre of their work.”
