Christmas rehearsals are now in full swing and the Village Harmony Choir are gearing up for the busy festive season. Members are learning lots of new fun pieces, including a fantastic variation on Jingle Bells and a couple of ‘a capella’ songs (sung unaccompanied). By the time you read this the choir will already have performed their first Christmas concert — on Saturday 24th November, at St Paul’s Church Morton, a beautiful church with lovely acoustics. Choir members love to sing in churches as the acoustics are a hundred times better than they are in the modern village halls with their low ceilings.
Their Christmas programme continues with a concert in St Joseph’s Church Hall in Retford, on Saturday 1st December at 7.30pm. They are performing a first half of sacred music, including lovely pieces such as ‘Do you hear what I hear’ ‘All on a Silent Night’ and ‘O Holy Night’. The second half is secular songs including the joyful ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ ‘Christmas is coming’ and the beautiful thoughtful words of ‘Christmas Joy’.
Friday 7th December at 7.00pm sees the choir in Clarborough Church, performing a joint concert with Worksop Miners Brass Band. Tickets for this event are £6.00 each including refreshments, and are available by calling 01777 946416, or on the door on the night. Last year was very well attended so it is advisable to secure your ticket if you can.
Lastly, but by no means least, Village Harmony performs in Sturton-le-Steeple Village Hall on Sunday 9th December at 2.00pm. This is their ‘own’ concert, to raise money for choir funds, and will be another joyous occasion full of Christmas music. Tickets are now available from June on 01427 880965, priced at £6.00 each including festive refreshments. They usually do this concert on a Saturday afternoon, but for a change they are trying a Sunday.
The choir is taking bookings for 2019 so if you would like to raise funds for a particular cause or charity, please consider booking Village Harmony to sing for you.
Village Harmony is still looking for new members, and if you’re interested why not come to one of their Christmas concerts and see what they’re about. They provide all the music, plus a uniform, and new members get several weeks ‘free gratis’. This gives them gives plenty of time to settle in and see if Village Harmony is ‘for them’ before the decision is made to join or not.
