Tips for tablets at IT group

by | 8 November 2017 | Education and Learning, Gainsborough, Retford, Worksop

From November, classes at Clarborough and Welham IT Group will focus on iPad and tablets on Wednesday morning, alongside the usual Windows 10 focus which also forms the basis of Tuesday afternoon sessions.

‘Gardeners’ Question Time’ provides a standard start to lessons, epitomising the group’s aims which remain answering members questions and building skills and experience around these. While members arrive, there is also usually a prelude during which the volunteers demonstrate laptops as music centres.

If you would like to make the best use of your iPad the group’s Wednesdays morning sessions aim to deliver training based on your needs covering emailing, using the internet safely, managing photographs and running the best applications. Beginners are most welcome and age is irrelevant!

There is a friendly, even slightly off-the-wall, atmosphere and with plenty of ‘elbow room’ and small group working on a number of topics is easily attained. The group actively encourages members to help each other too — a key part of learning. Add to this a free Workbooks package of 100+ worksheets free to all members, and either guided or independent working are quite possible. The group also has a range of open-source (which means free) applications easily installed on members laptops which include full, Microsoft-compatible, office suites and digital image editing applications plus several others.

Autumn classes continue in Clarborough Village Hall, week commencing 13th November, in the usual Tuesday afternoons, from 1.30pm to 3.00pm, or Wednesday mornings, from 10.00am to 11.30am, slots. Bring your own laptop or use one of the group’s Windows 10 machines. Fees remain at just £15.00 for a five-week block. Classes run through 30 weeks each year — see the IT Group website or village hall posters for our calendar of dates through to July 2018. To book your place, contact Greg on 01777 700918 or email
