Another first came recently for the Wednesday Group with a visit from Retford Ukulele Group.
Ukulele bands seem to have become very popular in recent years, but it’s taken some time to track one down in Retford – but Wednesday Group member Bridget managed it! The Ukulele Group visited in September and proved to be great fun, chatting to the members about their instruments and what they do.
They played a varied selection of pop songs that were all very familiar and a few well-known, traditional folk songs, all the time singing along and stamping their feet to the beat. It wasn’t long before Wednesday Group members were joining in and very soon, they were up and dancing, waving their arms and singing at the tops of their voices.
It was clear, by the end, that everyone had had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and the musicians seemed to be as keen to do a return visit as the group members were to have them back. One member said: “That’s been the best afternoon I’ve had in a very long time!” Well-deserved praise for a lovely and very talented group of musicians.
If you care for someone with dementia or you yourself have a diagnosis and you think the Wednesday Group might be helpful, do get in touch.
