Christmas preparations have been underway for the Wednesday Group for some time now.
The first event on the Christmas calendar is the wonderful Christmas Tree Festival at St Swithun’s Church in Retford. Those members who love craft work have been busy making robins for the tree the group hopes to have on display there.
It’s a lovely time of year and a wonderful opportunity to reminisce about happy times in the past. The kettle goes on, the crafty ones migrate to the craft table and out come the colouring pencils, glue, scissors, card and glitter dust. In no time at all, people are absorbed in what they are doing. Lesley, who leads craft sessions, also designs the decorations and helps with any tricky bits. She encourages members to talk about Christmas, about what they are doing and about their own experiences of Christmas when they were children, or maybe with their own children.
The group keeps all the regular activities going for those who are not ‘crafty’: snooker, table tennis, cards or any of a load of other games they have. And then there are the music sessions, which are always popular. They keep varying activities so no one gets bored but whatever they do, they always chat and have a laugh.
The Wednesday Group is primarily for people with memory problems. It meets every Wednesday at Hallcroft Methodist Church for lunch, games, music and sporty activities. The charge is £10.00 per session and the first visit is free.
