Preparations are well underway for the fourth Star Festival at The Grove Methodist Church. Year on year organisers aim to make the experience better for the many people who attend. This year, as in previous years, they will be raising money for a local charity. The festival will be on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December and on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December, from 10.00am to 5.00pm each day.
Unfortunately, the organisers are still unable to use their beautiful Grade ll listed heritage building for services and special events, however work is underway as part of the long and very expensive process of making the sanctuary safe for worship once again. Due to the major repairs needed the central part is still unavailable for public use. The Star Festival will take place through the foyer, walking along the sides and round the rear of the church worship area
Through opening the building for the Star Festival, it is hoped to help let the people of Retford and surrounding areas know, that they are still ‘open for business’.
As in previous years there is no charge for entry, but there are donation boxes available if visitors wish to use them. This year they will be supporting the Bassetlaw Hospice. With the help of the community, organisers want to fill the Church with stars. There will also be an area to remember people who have been very special to you, the ‘wish upon a star’ area.
Last year the refreshments, craft stall and tombola proved to be very popular and any monies raised are used to support the church improvements. All support is appreciated, as is the generosity of local businesses. If you wish to help the church financially, Gift Aid envelopes will be available.
The end of the festival will be marked by a Messy Church Service — so please feel free to join in on Sunday 8th December, from 3.30pm onwards.
If you would like to have a display or can offer any support, please contact Di Welchman in the circuit office, on 01777 702786, or by email to di.welchman@trinitycircuit.net.
Organisers would love your support at the festival and really hope you will pay a visit.
