The Captains of Retford Bowling Green, Carol Norman and Chris Bromley, decided to support the Chesterfield Canal Trust as their chosen charity this year, to aid its important work in restoring this historic canal. The sum of £300 has been raised from various events throughout the bowling season with raffles, bowling ‘spiders’ and social events. Bowling, Associate and Social members have enjoyed these events being pleased to take part and support the chosen charity as they always do.
Rod Auton, Secretary of the Chesterfield Canal Trust, received the cheque and said: “We were very honoured to be chosen as the Retford Bowling Green’s charity this year. We are absolutely delighted to receive this wonderful donation which will go towards the future restoration of our beautiful canal.”
Retford Bowling Green is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and has held various events highlighting the club and its merits. The club has a combined membership of around 140 people but welcomes and encourages new members of any age and ability. It not only offers bowling in the summer season but also a varied winter programme, including social activities, events and fortnightly Coffee Mornings (Fridays) – an ideal opportunity to meet existing members.
Anyone who may be interested in joining or going along to see what the club is about would be very welcome, or for more information please contact email@example.com or search for the club on Facebook.
