At Retford and District Historical and Archaeological Society’s October meeting, Maggy Watkins will talk about ‘Katherine Swynford – The Scandalous Duchess’.
Members and visitors will learn about the extraordinary life of the Duchess of Lancaster, who was the mistress of John of Gaunt for many years and eventually became his third wife. She gained management of various estates around Lincoln and is buried in Lincoln Cathedral.
The meeting is on Wednesday 11th October at 7.30pm in Chapelgate Hall, situated behind Grove Street Methodist Church.
The presentation at the following meeting on 8th November is entitled ‘Concealed Objects and Written Charms – Protection in the Medieval Period’.
New members are welcome and can join the Society for an annual subscription £10.00. Visitors are charged £3.00 per meeting.
