The Retford branch of the U3A (University of the Third Age) has appointed a new chairman following its AGM in April. Chris Clifford, 71, has replaced the outgoing Chairman Adrian Sumner.

Following retirement, Chris and his wife Vera moved to Retford nearly four years ago to be closer to friends and family. A graduate of Loughborough University, Chris spent his early working life in manufacturing industry, including a spell at Steetley Refractories in Worksop. Later he took on senior positions at the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) including Assistant Regional Director in the East Midlands.

Chris, who only joined the U3A two years ago, said: “I became a member so I could get involved in the local community as well as learn new skills and take on new interests. However, I certainly didn’t expect to be in the position of Chairman so soon but feel very privileged to take on the role.”
