Murder on stage

by | 1 May 2017 | Performing Arts, Retford

Police in Retford are searching for the key suspect, a Mr Bill Sykes, after he battered to death a young girl called Nancy on stage at the Majestic Theatre. Retford Amateur Operatic Society present Oliver, with performances nightly from 3rd May to 6th May, at 7.30pm.

A Mr Brownlow saw the man — who is described as a thick-set individual, wearing a blue coat and top hat — snatch the boy Oliver, from Nancy before he battered her to death. He was said to have run off in the direction of the Three Cripples. Police are said to be working on a theory that he was an associate of a Mr Fagin who is believed to run a gang of juvenile pick-pockets. Nancy was last seen singing ‘Oom Pah Pah’ in the tavern, with her young friend Bet. A young man named Jack Dawkins — alias The Artful Dodger — has been taken into custody and is being questioned at this time.
