Microsoft announces end of Vista

Microsoft has long been warning that it would soon be discontinuing support for its Vista version of Windows. That has now arrived with confirmation that their security support for their Vista Operating System (OS) ended on 11th April. While regular security software can still guard against viruses on a Vista PC, you won’t receive essential security updates from Microsoft to keep the OS itself watertight.

With laptops (and desktop PCs) continuing to fall in price, this latest prompt maybe just what is needed to encourage you to update your hardware; but what to choose? Rather than making a hasty decision, why not join Clarborough and Welham IT Group and get to know their modern, Windows 10, laptops and also receive advice on good sources at the best prices?

Getting to know Windows 10 is what the group is all about — so whether you are just moving into this latest version, or have had a Windows 10 system for a while but feel that you need a helping hand to get the most from it, why not join one of our classes? With free Wi-Fi and a commitment to enabling members to productively and safely use the internet, why not come on board?

We are also looking to provide support for Apple users too, particularly iPads, although this is restricted to certain times within our Tuesday afternoon sessions at present. This initiative would benefit from more volunteer tutors to enable full-time support. If you would like to get engaged with our group as a volunteer — Windows or Apple — then do get in touch. This facility could also be of interest to anyone looking to get back into work since we have experience in CV and reference writing within our team.

Clarborough and Welham IT Group’s next block of classes, on either Tuesday afternoons (from 1.30pm to 3.00pm) or Wednesday mornings (from 10.00am to 11.30am), resumes at Clarborough Village Hall week commencing 12th June in our usual five-week blocks. Fees are just £15 for each block. A full calendar of class dates right through to July 2018, along with more useful information, can be found on For more information or to book your place, contact Greg on 01777 700918 or email
