Thursday 19th October is the last chance to hear the fine organ at St Swithun’s Church Retford this year.
Following the same pattern as previous concert days on the third Thursday of each month, the music starts at 1.00pm, with light lunches being available from 12.15pm. The organist this month is John Keyes, who is well-known as the organist for the city of Nottingham, for Nottingham University and for the great church of St Mary’s in the Lace Market. He is guaranteed to give an exciting programme of music by William Walton, Felix Mendelssohn, Cesar Franck, Louis Vierne and winding-up the year’s music with War March of the priests by Mendelssohn.
This year has seen a succession of great concerts given by organists of the highest calibre, which has demonstrated the superb quality of the organ in St Swithun’s. Attendance has been very good at all of the concerts, which has encouraged the organisers to arrange another set for next year, starting on 18th April, the third Thursday in April, and continuing throughout the summer on the third Thursday of each month.
