Mention Ladies’ Day to pretty much anybody and you’ll have the ladies reaching for fancy hats and dresses and the men looking up the odds. But in this case, you’re on to a sure bet with the summer comedy offering from the Acorn theatre’s own production team, Acorn Productions. Ladies’ Day will have you laughing until you’re hoarse! After outstanding success last autumn with ‘Allo ‘Allo, we move from wartime France to the recent past in God’s own county with this racy comedy from the pen of well-known contemporary writer Amanda Whittington. Ladies’ Day tells the story of four hard pressed lady fish-packers from Hull who find tickets for Ascot Ladies’ Day, the year it was temporarily relocated to nearby York. Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies as they doll up and head off to the races. Glamour puss Shelley, hard-up Linda and Pearl who reveals a secret to devoted single mother, Jan guzzle champagne and come across a variety of characters from an arrogant TV pundit to a sensitive jockey.
You will not be gambling if you come along to see their adventures, Ladies’ Day will be your odds-on favourite.
