Four decades & counting for Model Railway Exhibition

The Bassetlaw Railway Society’s annual Model Railway Exhibition has given pleasure to the residents of Retford, both old and young, for over 40 years. From its humble beginnings in a church hall on London Road to its present home in the splendid surroundings of the Town Hall, the exhibition continues to thrive. This year’s exhibition will feature 14 layouts plus a Swopmeet in the Buttermarket on Sunday only which will attract an additional entrance fee.

Ian Belton has extended his Lego City Trains layout yet again and now competes with the society’s Thomas Interactive as the youngsters’ favourite, as children can control Thomas and Friends through hand controllers provided for the purpose. Layout scales will range from Lego City Trains in G scale to three built in the increasingly popular N gauge, including the society’s Corebridge offering. In between these scales will be layouts in 00, H0 and the rare TT gauge.
The advent of sound-equipped model trains has added a new dimension to model railways and society member Steve Brammer will be exhibiting his Merlin’s Yard layout again this year. Steve is in the forefront of fitting advanced sound speakers into model trains and is one of the country’s leading specialists in the field.

The Model Railway Exhibition will be held once again in Retford Town Hall over the weekend of 18th and 19th November. It is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm on Saturday and from 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sunday. Prices are held for yet another year at £4.00 for adults, £2.50 for children (under 5s free) and £10.00 for a family ticket.

The usual trade and society stands and demonstrations will be in attendance and refreshments will be available on both days. Details can be found on the society website, the Facebook page or by calling 07768 347456.
