Clarborough and Welham Parish is commemorating the Centenary of the end of World War I during the weekend of 10th and 11th November. The commemorations are focusing on remembering the 28 men of the parish who have been identified as having been either killed in action or died of wounds.
Parish organisations, including Clarborough and Welham Parish Council, the Women’s Institute, St John the Baptist Church, Bell Ringers, First Clarborough Scouts and the Clarborough and District Community Association (Clarborough Village Hall) have come together to provide the events. Two of these events, the Beacon Lighting and the Bell Ringing, will be part of the nationally-organised commemoration events. The organisations hope that everyone can take part in some or all of these events.
The month before Remembrance on Sunday 11th November, will see the installation of a line of lamppost poppies which will stretch through Main Street in Welham and Main Street in Clarborough. This will be reflected in a cascade of poppies on display at the Flower Festival in the Parish Church on Church Lane, Clarborough. In addition, this time will see the installation of an almost life-sized Royal British Legion ‘Silent Tommy’ silhouette displayed between the two villages.
