What a wonderful day was had by all at Bracken Lane School’s Summer Fair!

Saturday 1st July saw Bracken Lane School hold their annual summer fair, but the new PTA committee really upped their game this year! “We really wanted to create a fun day out for the children and focussed on them more than ever this year. It’s not just about raising much needed funds but it’s also about making wonderful memories,” said the Chairperson of Friends of Bracken Lane School (FOBL).

Gone are the dodgy raffle prizes — replaced with nights in hotels and dinner, owl experiences, gym memberships and hard cash! Move over incinerated burgers and sausages on the BBQ and say hello to a professional chef in charge of the food!

FOBL has secured sponsorship from Newton Fallowell, Retford, who give a large donation to the school in exchange for willing families displaying their advertising boards outside their homes. A staggering £1,100 was donated last year alone.

The kind weather brought record numbers to the fair and the range of things to do and see, meant that people stayed around all afternoon. One mum said: “It’s great that there’s so much to do for the kids, and nothing is too expensive, so I’m happy to let them have a go on everything.”

The fair raised a record £3,909, which will go towards improving the playground equipment and purchasing essential resources that the decreasing school budget no longer covers.

Mr Gareth Letton, Headteacher, said: “We really are hugely grateful for all the support and wonderful donations that our families and the local community gives to the school, and obviously to all at FOBL for their hard work and determination to make the fair the huge success that it was. Every penny given and every minute of everyone’s time benefits the entire school. The money raised will be put to fantastic use and will ensure that all the children of the school receive the education and wonderful school experience that they all deserve.”
