Bassetlaw Food Bank

At Bassetlaw Food Bank they run several food-related services. One of them is Lunch Club, a social eating project. Guests get a two-course hot meal at an affordable price and have the opportunity to mix and make new friends.

The project was designed to provide healthy and filling meals at an affordable price, decrease loneliness and isolation among older generations in rural areas, and create a safe and social environment.

Up until May they ran sessions at The Crossing in Worksop which was a great place to establish the project. But, with the help of the Harworth and Bircotes Town Council they identified a greater need for the sessions in this area and decided to relocate. Since the move attendance has tripled – now at over 35 attendees each week!

Sessions are held on Wednesdays at the Harworth and Bircotes Town Council and food is served at 12.30pm. Guests can prebook on Thursdays for the session on the following Wednesday. The meals are prepared by the Lunch Club cook and are ‘meat-and-two-veg’ style. The menu can be found at www.bassetlawfoodbank.org/lunch and there is a vegetarian alternative if given notice upon booking.

This project has grown tremendously since it was established in September 2021 and it is hoped that come the autumn and winter months it will have an even greater positive impact on both mental and physical health.
