Bassetlaw back to netball

Many of us have some not so happy memories of school netball. Well you will be pleased to know it’s changed quite a bit in recent years and is proving very popular with a whole host of women who have taken up the challenge to play again. Whether you’re a super shooter, a wicked wing or a dynamic defender, there’s something for you out there on the netball court.

Back To Netball has been in Bassetlaw since the start of this year. The first sessions were held at the Elizabethan Academy, with a second session starting at Worksop Leisure Centre soon afterwards. Motivations for taking up any new activity vary widely and it’s no different for netball. What is clear though is that a fun and friendly hour of netball can be a great incentive for socialising and getting fit.

No special equipment is needed, other than a comfy pair of trainers and a drink. The focus is on basic skills and match play but it’s about enjoyment and having a giggle with your team mates. The groups are always looking to recruit new members. As it’s not club netball, there is no expectation that you turn up every week, just when you like. For those that want a little more out of the sport, the groups will be playing a couple of tournaments — the first is in Lincoln at the Back to Netball Festival at the end of November.

The sessions are on Thursday evenings at Elizabethan Academy, Retford from 6.00pm to 7.00pm and at Worksop Leisure Centre from 8.00pm to 9.00pm; no need to pre-book, just turn up. It’s £3.50 per person.

If you haven’t tried netball before and you are looking for something a little different come along and have a go. You never know you might just like it enough to keep coming back. Follow the Retford Back to Netball page on Facebook.
