Art happening all over Retford

The thundery showers did not dampen the enthusiasm for the opening of the second annual Retford Arts Festival in May and eventually there was fun in the sun.

Chair of Bassetlaw District Council, Madelaine Richardson, officially opened the eclectic event. As an artist herself, she is passionate about supporting the artists’ community in Retford and the surrounding areas. Visitors came from far and wide to enjoy the variety of art, events and activities in and around our vibrant town over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.

Pat Carrington was helping with ‘messy art’ outside the Hub where everyone, young and old alike, was encouraged to paint a picture of themselves to become a giant frieze around St Swithun’s churchyard.

Chris Daniels, of the organising committee, commented: “Retford Arts Festival has been another massive success this year. As ever it was indeed a challenge with so many venues and artists and credit must be given to the organising team. A very big thank you to everyone who took part, to the public for their enthusiasm and to all our supporters.”
