Kingfisher Family Practice and Riverside Health Clinic have once more joined forces to hold the annual Flu Fayre. The Flu Fayre will be held in the Buttermarket, which is downstairs in the Town Hall, on 2nd, 3rd and 4th October, from 9.00am to 4.00pm daily. Please, therefore, contact the surgery you are registered with, to book your appointment if you are eligible for a vaccination. Refreshments will be available.
Influenza immunisation has grown to become a major public health programme, delivering around 15 million doses of vaccine in a few weeks every autumn. The influenza vaccine has been shown to prevent or improve influenza and reduce complications, hospital admissions and deaths.
Again this year, the Government’s aim is to offer influenza vaccine to everyone aged 65 years and over, as well as younger people in the established ‘high risk’ categories, people such as those with chronic heart disease, chronic respiratory disease including asthma, chronic renal disease, chronic liver disease, chronic neurological disease e.g. stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA), diabetes, immunosuppression (due to disease or treatment), pregnant women and people who are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if their carer falls ill.
Additionally, an immunisation programme for all two and three-year-old children will take place. The Influenza immunisation for children simply involves a small nasal spray. Influenza can be a very serious illness and it is vitally important that we undertake this additional flu campaign for this young and vulnerable age group. Childhood immunisation will be conducted within the individual GP practice you are registered with, not at the Flu Fayre, so please contact your surgery for details.
