Sherwood Forest Brass’ 25th anniversary celebrations took place at the beginning of June during a party evening where photographs, contest remarks, concert programmes and other memorabilia documenting the 25 years of the band were perused by current and ex members and families.
Collating items emphasised the impact the band has had on so many individuals and the success achieved over this period. Two days later, the band appeared in concert in Clipstone to our local community. The programme featured Disney pieces Part of Your World and Go the Distance from The Little Mermaid and Hercules respectively, the TV theme tune to the Game of Thrones and film music from The Mission, interspersed with traditional brass band items. This was repeated to a full and appreciative audience at St Andrew’s Church, Eakring, a week later.
The band’s next event is at the Headstocks in Clipstone on Saturday 19th September, where they will be joining the Blidworth Welfare Band and guest soloist Joe Heartfield, current Principal Trombone with the Brighouse and Rastrick Band. They are proud that Joe spent his early years as part of Sherwood Forest Brass. Following this, the band will be back at Clipstone for an Autumn Concert.
Anyone interested in playing with or supporting the band is encouraged to get in touch. Instruments are available for every age and ability, with free instrument hire provided. Those who do not read music will be taught by a qualified musician, with tuition also offered free of charge.
The band currently rehearses on Mondays from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at Clipstone Social Club, Clipstone NG21 9AL.
