Leverton and District Garden Group

by | 15 November 2017 | Gardening Club, Group meeting

The Leverton and District Garden Group October meeting was well attended, no doubt because of the lure of beautiful flowers expertly arranged by Lucie Griffin, the owner of Branching Out in Retford. Lucie explained about securing flowers in oasis and some principles of design. She demonstrated three arrangements, varied in style but all very effective. Her audience was amazed at the effect that can be achieved with relatively few blooms if they are skilfully handled.

Throughout the demonstrations, Lucie entertained the group by revealing how she had been captivated by flowers during work experience and gone to college to gain formal qualifications. After that “things just fell into place” and then she took over her shop on Chapelgate. She has now been in business for six years and is very busy with arrangements for events and delivering the occasional courses in her shop in the evenings. There are courses planned for the pre Christmas period and details are posted in her window.

Lucie was generous with her information and her arrangements which she donated to the raffle. Three happy winners took them home.

Gardeners usually take a well-earned rest in the winter months but Leverton gardeners are still keen to make their patches attractive and with that in mind are looking forward to a talk on ‘Autumn and Winter Planting’ at the November meeting. If you would like to come along to this friendly group it costs £2.00 for members and £4.00 for non-members including refreshments. Half-year membership is £5.00.
