Leverton and District Garden Group

by | 6 December 2017 | Gardening Club, Group meeting

June has seen Leverton and District Garden Group’s first garden visit of the season. The group visited Norwell Nurseries (www.norwellnurseries.co.uk) and enjoyed a guided tour round the various parts of the planted garden.
The owner, Dr Andrew Ward, specialises in rare and unusual herbaceous perennials as well as cottage garden plants, woodland plants, shade lovers, hardy chrysanthemums, hardy geraniums, hemerocallis, choice bulbs and grasses.

All are grown in inspirational gardens which are free to look around (except special charity days, when a small fee is payable) whenever the nursery is open. The nursery has the National Collection of Hardy Chrysanthemums and holds over 140 varieties. In addition, it has recently become the custodian of the National Collection of Astrantias.

The group’s members were treated to tea and homemade cake in the brand new Pavillion which is to be incorporated into the planting scheme over the next few seasons. The group who visited thought they were in Aladdin’s cave and many prize specimens have found their way to Leverton and district.

The group has more visits scheduled in the coming months so the usual meetings are on hold until September. However, if you want to contact the treasurer to join the group (£10 a year) call 01427 884448.
