Town Hall Live, Kirton host two concerts in May.
First up, on Friday 12th May, are The Kennedys. They are Pete and Maura Kennedy, both East Coast natives who met in Austin, Texas, as members of Nanci Griffith Blue Moon Orchestra. They joined forces and set out on the road, two decades later saw them celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2015, both as a duo and a married couple. They have been prolific over that time and continued to play with Nanci Griffith. In 2014 they released a tribute album to Nanci and toured the UK with it. In 2016 they released their latest album ‘West’. It is an instant classic Kennedy’s duo album that seamlessly weaves the couple’s influences over the last two decades, with Buddy Holly style roots, the tuneful cadences of the Everly Brothers and the ringing 12 String jangle of the early Byrds records. Live they are exhilarating with Maura’s beautiful vocals driven by Pete’s sensational guitar style and virtuosity.
Supporting the Kennedys will be Dan Webster from York. Dan’s music is influenced by the sounds and storytelling traditions of American and British folk music, in its broadest sense.
Then, on Friday 26th, three of Nashville’s finest singer-songwriters Jenn Bostic, Sarah Darling and Michael Logan play a ‘Songs in the Round’ style concert to a sold-out audience. Jenn is most well known for her hit single ‘Jealous of the Angels’, written as a tribute to her late father, who died in a car accident when Jenn was 10 years old. When released, in 2012, the song was play listed on BBC Radio 2. She went on to be the first independent artist to have three singles play listed on Radio 2, performed on BBC Breakfast and a year later on Songs of Praise with her song ‘Little Grace’. Jenn continues to pull on the heart strings of people around the world with her heartfelt songs and her emotionally powerful voice.
Sarah is sure to take us on a whimsical ride through her songs about love, life, the universe and more. She calls her sound ‘Dream Country’ and that is a perfect definition of her music. Sarah has released four albums, the latest of which, ‘Dream Country’, contains a beautiful selection of songs. She is one of Nashville’s top song writers and has played at the Grand Ole Opry on more than 80 occasions. Michael is one of Nashville’s top male singer-songwriters. His songs have been recorded, and sometimes co-written, by the likes of Kelly Clarkson and Paul Carrack. Over the past two years he has performed throughout North America and Europe and has opened for artists such as John Hiatt and John Legend. In 2016 he released his new album ‘New Medicine’, which contains ten sincere and gritty indie folk-pop songs.
Advance tickets for The Kennedys concert are priced at £12.50 and £13.50 for Jenn, Sarah and Michael. They can be obtained from the One Stop store in Kirton, from Brian on 01652 649230 or www.wegottickets.com.
