The Poppy appeal is now well underway and the Retford and District branch of the Royal British Legion is hoping for another year of fantastic support.
The new Poppy Appeal organiser, Peter Pimperton is happy to deal with any queries; phone 07792 513969 or email ppimperton@yahoo.com. Any orders for the Harworth area will be forwarded to Scott Harrison. It is hoped that most orders have already been dealt with as they may not be able to guarantee delivery before the remembrance events.
Stalls will again be set up in Morrisons and Home Bargains in Retford, with other supermarkets and local shops having an outlet or donation point. There will be a stall on Retford Market for last minute poppies etc on Saturday 12th November and, if they are able to man it, there will also be one on Saturday 5th November.
Armistice Day, 11th November, falls on a Friday this year and a service of remembrance will be held around the War Memorial in Retford Market Square at 10.45am. Everyone is welcome to attend but be mindful of the fact that there will be a bric-a-brac market that day so the access to the immediate area around the memorial may be limited.
Remembrance Sunday this year is 13th November, with proceedings again starting at 10.45am. Please join in this service of remembrance of all those who have served, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice and are named on local memorials.
At the recent AGM, the chair of the branch Tony Goodall stood down after four and a half years in the post. Vice chair, Glenn White was voted into the post and Julie Davis became the new vice chair.
