On Monday 5th September, the doors opened at a new venue for Retford and District Photographic Society (RDPS) in St Joseph’s Church Hall, Babworth Road – the start of their first full season for several years. Some former members returned and the group welcomed seven potential new members. It was an excellent turnout. Programme secretary Jane Brownley gave an overview of the season of photographic treats to come.
Jane was followed onto the floor by Gwen, who told members about the format for the season’s competitions. These are optional, but an early speaker, Jorj Malinowski, will be telling from his point of view as a judge why members should enter.
There is plenty to look forward to, including visits by David Keep on 17th October, showing some of his stunning underwater images, and one of RDPS’ own very successful photographers, Geoff Stoddart, on 3rd October with images taken ‘My Way’. This talk will be an opportunity to learn how Geoff has turned his garden into a wildlife photography haven.
President Alan Dibbo introduced and welcomed Dave Clarke, the new Treasurer. Membership remains £30.00 per person plus £3.00 nightly attendance fee. The cost for guests is £4.00 per night, available for a maximum of three times before committing to membership. Only members can enter competitions.
Members will have been busy with their cameras during the summer break. Those who also belong to ‘Snappers’, based at Beckingham, have had group trips to Gainsborough Old Hall, Papplewick Pumping Station and Sculptures at Doddington, so there should be a variety of entries for the first competition on 26th September. Both this and the second competition are open, so any subject is acceptable.
The group is always very pleased to welcome anyone with an interest in photography at any level. They meet every Monday night, starting at 7.30pm, between September and the end of April.
