Live music at Springthorpe Village Hall

by | 7 September 2024 | Gainsborough, Music

Sunday 15th September

Miriam Backhouse

Miriam’s roots go back to the UK Folk Scene of the ’70s when she was likened to Joan Baez, and ranked alongside Maddy Prior and other revivalists of the time.

Then, she played a significant role in the folk revival, appearing at most of the Folk Clubs and Festivals of the time, including Edinburgh and Cambridge, with acclaim from all the leading critics of the day. Miriam’s interpretation of traditional and modern folk songs are unique, and her ability to lead an audience into chorus singing, particularly, ‘Keys of Canterbury’ at Cambridge Folk Festival 1976, is the stuff of legends.

Miriam went to live in South Africa with her husband, John, and only made brief visits to the UK. Now, sadly widowed, she is able to spend longer with us – including a visit to Springthorpe! Admission for this concert will be £10.00.

Sunday 8th December

Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer

Vicky and Jonny brought Springthorpe their Winter Warmer in 2018, transforming the village hall into a magical setting for an evening of old carols, music hall numbers and Scandinavian ghost stories. Organisers thought it was high time they returned along with their eclectic collection of musical instruments! Admission for this concert will be £12.00.

Tickets for either concert can be reserved by emailing mandsd@yahoo.com.
