Torben Bett’s play is a comedy of bad manners and a brilliant play of ideas. Both entertaining and tense, it’s been described as “startlingly raw” and “catching the mood of the times”. Director Gill Blow and all the team at The Gainsborough Theatre Club are very excited to be performing this superb play in Gainsborough after its successful regional tour of the country.

Actors Phil Jones and Mand Austen play Oliver and Emily who’ve decided to downsize and shift their middle-class London lifestyle to a small town in the north of England. These left-leaning well educated people have invited over their new neighbours to break the ice. Alan and Dawn, played by Tony Towers and Sarah Clark, are offered olives and anchovies and introduced to Karl Marx and abstract art — inevitable classes and outlooks collide, and the scene is set for a rendezvous with consequences as hilarious as they are tragic.
