Organisers are pleased to announce the return of the free Gainsborough Christmas Day Lunch.
Anyone who would otherwise be spending Christmas Day alone is invited to join the Gainsborough Christmas Day Lunch Committee for a free Christmas Day Lunch and turn what would have been a lonely day into a memorable festive occasion
The entire purpose of the event has always been to bring people together to celebrate the day and enjoy the festivities in the company of others, rather than being alone in isolation.
The Christmas Lunch, now in its 46th year, is provided free of charge and is run entirely by volunteers.
The organiser, Stan Foster, said: “We are delighted to be able to go ahead this year with people coming together to enjoy Christmas Day. The last two years have had a major impact on people’s lives, especially those living alone.
“This annual celebration is only made possible by the generosity of local businesses, the community and the volunteers who support the event so generously year after year.
“Sadly after 15 years of dedicated voluntary service, cooking for those on their own on Christmas Day, our wonderful cook Zena, of Zenas Top Nosh, has decided to hang up her saucepans. She will be greatly missed by us all.”
The festive meal will be held on Christmas Day, Sunday 25th December, at The Blues Club, North Street, Gainsborough DN21 2HU, starting at 11.00am for tea, coffee and nibbles and concluding around 2.30pm.
To get into the mood carols will be sung, entertainment is provided and Santa Claus will be distributing presents.
Transport can be provided for anyone living in Gainsborough and the district who cannot get there under their own steam.
If anyone expects to be on their own and would like to go as a guest, forms can be collected from Gainsborough Community Wheels, 18 Parnell Street, Gainsborough DN21 2NB.
Alternatively, you can book directly by contacting Stan Foster on 01777 248354 or 07904 212533. The latest date for booking is Friday 16th December.
