Connexions Community Hub has been pleased to have been working with young people and Image Skool to produce artwork for the tunnel at Community Rail’s Lea Road Station in Gainsborough, with some amazing results.

The Gainsborough Art Project has been a three-to-six-month project with the Connexions Community Hub, and its youth Committee (Connexions4Youth). All the young people and volunteers involved developed the design and images you will now find at Lea Road Station.

Community Rail consists of grassroots partnerships that engage with communities and help people maximise the benefits their railways offer. They also promote social inclusion and sustainable travel. They work to improve train services and stations as gateways to their communities, working with, and establishing voluntary station adopter groups, whilst also encouraging the involvement of schools and community groups in taking care, and improving their own environments.
During the project, everyone had a fantastic time and worked hard to produce some stunning artwork with Image Skool, which has included their own Graffiti Wall, spreading a very positive message to all stating that we are ‘Better Together’. This message stresses the importance of community in these turbulent times, while also celebrating what Gainsborough has to offer on the other side of the tunnel, with painted buildings which included All Saints Church, the War Memorial, Old Hall and Marshalls Yard.

It has been all hands on deck to produce what you will see at the station today. To find out more about the Community Rail partnership please visit www.nnlcrp.org.uk – and don’t forget to check out the artwork at the station too!
