Summer 2020 promises to offer a great adventure for Connor Burkinshaw and Charlotte Pickering from 6th Gainsborough Sea Scouts. Both have progressed through Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and have been selected to represent the United Kingdom at the 16th European Scout and Guide Jamboree, which will be held on Sobieszewo Island in Gdansk, Poland.
Polish Guiding and Scouting are working hard on the plans for the Jamboree when 10,000 Scouts and Guides, supported by a staff of 2,500 Scout and Guide Leaders, will come together to camp, share meals and develop friendships that will last for a lifetime.
Participants will have the opportunity to join in sports, water activities, crafts, cultural workshops, environmental activities and will enjoy campfires and musical activities. They will also have the opportunity to visit the European Solidarity Centre, Museum of the Second World War, Hevelianum Astronomy Centre, St Dominic Fair and the Museum of Gdansk. As part of the Troop from Lincolnshire they will either, explore Poland before the Jamboree starts at the end of July or will round off the camp with a tour when it ends on Thursday 6th August.
Charlotte and Connor are organising some fundraising events as this is an important part of the experience, challenging the youngsters to take responsibility for raising the £1,200 that they need to fulfil their dream. Any past Scouts who might like to support them and put something back into Scouting can contact the Group Scout Leader, Jonathan Swatton, firstname.lastname@example.org. Offers of prizes for fundraising events would also be appreciated.
